The Lutefisk / Meatball dinner was very successful, we used up almost all of the 100 pounds and have another one planned for the 2nd Friday in January (8th).
Rage N Country is scheduled to play at the Post on February 26th so start planning ahead on where you'll be that weekend. At the VFW of course.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe, have fun and thank a Veteran.

December 1, 2015
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Now on to the season to be jolly, and the Auxiliary is doing just that with a Cookie Sale/Craft Show this weekend from 9:00 to 5:00. They'll be in the kitchen all week getting baking done for this sale and they say they'll have plenty of goodies for you to take home.
Speaking of goodies, our annual Lutefisk / Meatball dinner is coming up next week on the 11th. We've been getting a lot of calls asking about the Lutefisk, so I ordered 100 pounds of the stuff while there is still some to be had. I have a few seasoned professionals (aka Auxiliary) who will help get this meal on for you. They've always done a great job so I know you'll like it.

It looks like Rage N Country won't be able to play this coming weekend, however, they will reschedule for another weekend in the near future. Bummer, they are good, but they will be back.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We will be closed on Thanksgiving so that we can all enjoy some quality time with our families and get stuffed with turkey. If you know of someone who is not as fortunate to share with family, try to help them out in any way you can. I know they will appreciate it. And remember those veterans and their families who can't be together due to mission readiness, say a prayer for them and be thankful for the sacrifices they make so you can be with your family.

There's a lot going on this month so plan your calendar accordingly. Along with the regularly scheduled Burger Nights on the 1st and 3rd Thursday and the Steak / Walleye dinner on the 2nd Friday every month, there is a Veterans Day dinner on Veterans Day, November 11th, for all Veterans and their family. Veterans Day is also a day to honor all Veterans, past and present.
We are also having the Marine Corps Birthday Ball on Saturday the 7th for all Marines, families and friends. It's a grand event with Marines in their Dress Blues and guests in Ball Gowns or their formal attire. There is even live music from The Hendershots so come down and dance the night away.
And if you like live music, we have more live music for you on the following Saturdays with SmackAgod and August Ends on the 14th and possibly Rage N Country on the 21st.

Happy Birthday to our Sailors today. Since 1775 you have helped keep our country safe. It's not just a job, it's an adventure.
Burger Night coming up this Thursday, bring your family and friends and have a great affordable meal.
Our Post is hosting the 8th District meeting on Saturday the 17th. The meetings start at 9:00. We're looking forward to having a lot of our members attend. This will only be a one day meeting and it's on Saturday instead of Sunday so church goers can still attend Mass. Hope to see you there.
The Kids Halloween Party is going at the National Guard Armory again this year on October 25th. Our turn outs have been great and the kids have a lot of room to have fun. There will be lots of activities and prizes and costumes (not only the kids dress up). See you there with your kids.

October 2, 2015
Not much notice here but flyers have been put out and it's been on Facebook that we are having more live music at our Post tomorrow night from the band 50/50. They've played here many times before and everyone loves them.

Burger nights and Steak / Walleye dinners are going fairly well, we could use a little more participation but hopefully things will pick up soon. The Kiwanis will be having a breakfast this coming Saturday (19th) so hope they will have a good turn out. The Retired Men's lunch has also started again on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month and they could always use more participants as well. They usually have a speaker come down to give a presentation so you find out what's going on in the community.
Don't forget about the Department Fall Conference going in Willmar next weekend on the 25th to 27th. This is the conference where they have more classroom training about all the programs and benefits the VFW has to offer. It's worth your while to attend.
We are having our annual Past Commanders / Past Presidents Banquet on September 30th this year. This banquet is to honor and recognize our Past Post Leaders and is for all members to attend. However, it is limited to members only. Please RSVP to the Post Commander or President so we can have correct number of meals prepared.

September 6, 2015
We had a great time and a great turn out for the street dance on Friday. The bands were great, the weather was great and everyone had a great time. No incidents with that many people made it an even better night. Looking forward to next year for another street dance or two. Thanks for all the volunteers for helping make it a huge success.

August 22, 2015
Just a quick note that as of yesterday, August 21, 2015, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary ended it's 101 year existence. At the National Convention in Pittsburgh, the 116th National Convention voted to allow eligible males in the Auxiliary, therefore removing the word "Ladies" from the Auxiliary title. They will now be called the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. The eligibility will remain the same. Read more about it.
Are you ready for another street dance? On September 4th, we will be having an even bigger street dance than we did at the 3rd of July. This time we will be having 3 bands playing for your enjoyment. We'll kick off the evening at 6:00 p.m. with the Hillbilly Outlaws, followed by Josh Brown and for the main attraction Rage N Country. Three outstanding bands playing in the parking lot behind the VFW all evening. There will also be food vendors there as well if you get the munchies. Have fun and I'll see you there.

August 7, 2015
It's that time of year again when we start having meals again at the Post. The first Burger Night kicks off on the 20th so come on in to see how I'm doing in the kitchen, a place where I'm not accustomed to being. But I'll be there in training so it may be fun to watch, but have no fear, there will be seasoned professional in the kitchen with me, so you'll still get the best quality meal you can get. And the price is still $4.00 and you'll still be able to build it any you want with all the fixin's you like at no extra charge. Then on Friday, the 21st, the Auxiliary will be starting their annual Steak or Walleye Dinner and Country Store, another great meal for a great price.

Our VFW is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive next Saturday (July 25th) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to help save lives in our community. We need at least 50 donors to come in and donate blood. This is the time of year when blood supplies are at their lowest and we need your help. Each pint of blood donated can save up to 3 lives. How many of you can say you did your part to save three lives? And all it took was a little bit of your time. You can come in and reserve your time slot or walk in. Thank you for saving a life.

July 1, 2015
At the State Convention this past June, our Post website was once gain awarded the Best Veteran Service website for the state of Minnesota (1st Place). And our 8th District website also was awarded 1st Place as the best District website in the State of Minnesota. What an honor for two websites from the 8th District to be awarded 1st Place. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making these websites the greatest.
Coming up this week we are having a Block Party on July 3rd, kicking off the event with a Kids Party from 2 - 5 p.m. with lots of games and prizes, free lunch for the kids. Then from 8 p.m. to midnight, enjoy a street dance with live music from the band 50/50. Then continue the celebration on the 4th of July with BINGO under the Tent at Veterans Park right next to VFW Beer Tent. That's right, we will have a Beer Tent at Veterans Park for the 4th of July. Come and have some fun. See you there.

June 5, 2015
The June Post/Auxiliary meeting has been moved to June 18 due to the Department Convention being scheduled for June 11 - 14 in Minneapolis. Per State By-laws, there can not be any activities being held at the same time as a State function, and in this case, a State Convention. Besides, most of the officers have to attend this Convention due to the training that is taking place during this convention. Our Post meetings will resume to the regular schedule in July.

Sorry about the delay in the updates, I am now the new Club Manager at the Post, along with a list of other duties I do for the VFW at the Post level and the District level. I also have a Bookkeeping business I run as well. This limits my time to update this website and other websites I manage as well but I will try to maintain as long as I can.
There isn't too much scheduled for this month, however, we are having a Smelt Fry (which was not on the printed schedule) on May 22nd and if there are any smelt left we will have a Smelt Fry on the following Friday (May 29th) as well. It took a little time to secure some smelt for this month but I was finally able to.

Another great local band will be taking center stage at the Post this coming Friday, April 24th from 8 - 12. That's right "Stranded" is coming to the VFW for your entertainment. Come early for the drawing and stay for live music. Don't forget your dancing shoes.
Don't forget about Loyalty Days coming up May 1 - 3 in Cook. Loyalty Days is the time when new leadership is elected at the District level and time to celebrate the past year's accomplishments.

April 4, 2015
It has been announced, the last Burger Night of the season will be April 16th and will resume again sometime in the fall. It's that time of year again when meals begin to wind down at the post, when volunteers are getting ready for their summer activities and more people are enjoying barbequing and getting ready for vacations. However, it's almost time for special holidays like Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day which gives us time to reflect on those special days and give thanks to those who have made these days possible (and still do).
Some of the leadership from different Veterans Organizations have been attending the meeting with the city regarding Veterans Park and the waterfront improvements. There was a three day workshop (Charette) on what to do with Veterans Park which will be presented to City Council along with the results of the plans for all the parks in Cloquet. The plans that we saw for Veterans Park was acceptable and honorable to veterans. They are supposed to publish the plans on the city website but as of yet don't have the updated version. If you want to see the proposals they already done, click here.

We have some winners to announce, the winner of the "Wheelbarrow of Cheer" was Julie Stoehr from Cook. Some of you may know her as Julie Beckers, the 8th District Voice of Democracy Chair for the Ladies Auxiliary. Congratulations Julie, you may need a truck to haul all those goods home. And thank you to all who worked so hard, and participated in, making this fundraiser such a huge success, the Auxiliary raised a lot of money to help Veterans in the area.

Congratulations to all the Scotch Pool Tournament winners. A Scotch Pool Tournament is a Male/Female partners team where no shooter can make two consecutive shots. If the shooter puts in the object ball, then his/her partner shoots next, if they don't get it in, then the opposing team gets to shoot. Everyone had a great time.

The winners of the Scotch Pool tournament held on Feb 21, 2015 were:
First Place - Becky and Jason
Second Place - George and Sandy
Third Place - Mel and Mike

The winners of the Scotch Pool Tournament held on Mar 21, 2015 were:
First Place - Bob and Dawn
Second Place - George and Sandy
Third Place - Chad and Donna

The Ladies Auxiliary is still hard at work raising money for veteran support by putting on a Spring Fashion Show and Luncheon in April. The Spring Fashion Show will be held on Saturday April 11 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Post. There will be a guest speaker, entertainment, drawings, raffles, lunch and of course a Fashion Show. How cool is that?

March 9, 2015
Spring is almost here, which means that spring cleaning will be here as well. Although our winter hasn't been too bad, except for the cold, spring is always welcome. Daylights savings time just kicked in and the first holiday is about to arrive. That's right, St Patrick's Day is almost here. For those of us who spent time in the Armed Forces, wearing green every day was our way of life. Now wearing green for one day a year is just fine with me. But this year we have a special occasion going on at the Post on St Patty's Day, we have a Wheelbarrow of Cheer to give away to a lucky ticket holder. We don't know who that lucky person is, but if the luck of the Irish is with you, you could walk away with a wheel barrow with lots of cheer in it. Don't forget to share.

February 13, 2015
We had a good turnout for the 8th District meeting held in Gilbert this past weekend. There are usually a few Posts that are no shows but overall the attendance was good. Just like the attendance at our monthly Post meetings, there are the usual ones that attend. Of all the members we have in our Post, why is it that only .3 percent attend the monthly meetings? What is it that keeps the other members from attending? The attendees range in ages from the 30's to 80's, so it isn't only one age group that shows up. The attendees range from current active duty to WWII era, so it isn't a generation gap. It's seems to be the same ones that attend the different functions that go on at the Post as well. Sooner or later, those volunteers won't be able to help out anymore and if no one is able to volunteer and help out, what then? We need your help and participation now! What would it take to get more volunteers and interest in meeting that affect how the Post is run? What would it take to get more members to participate in Post functions? Please let me know what you think. All suggestions are welcome. Let me know what it would take to get you down to the Post. What would you like to see different at the Post? Thank you.
Our VFW sponsored Cloquet Bantam AA took 3rd Place in the 46th Annual Edina Invitational Bantam AA tournament. Congratulations on a job well done!! Now their off to the VFW District Tournament in Hibbing against Duluth East, then it's off to Roseau for the Bantam AA Regions. Good luck. There's more info on the Items of Interest page.

January 27, 2015
It was a very productive Mid-Winter Conference in Minneapolis this weekend. There were a lot of good seminars to attend and good information. At the C of A (Council of Administration) meeting, they finally announced the winners of the publication contests that were supposed to have been given out last summer. Our website is once again took first place as the Best Veteran Service website in the state of Minnesota. There were no plaques given yet but they will be on their way. Of the 8 years that we have had our website up and running, this will make the 7th First Place title, only slipping to 2nd Place for one year.
The year has barely started and all ready the Post is humming with activity. We've had a lot more bookings for the Hall Rental, with the newest to include the Poker League coming down on Sundays and Chmielewski band playing on Sundays as well (different times, of course.)
The Ladies Auxiliary has been busy putting together an Indoor Flea Market on February 7 & 8, a Psychic/Medium Brenda Lynn Hammon giving a group reading on February 28th and raffling off a Wheelbarrow of Cheer on March 17th. You can read more about these in the Items of Interest.
And on top of all that we still have our VFW responsibilities as well, such as the 8th District Conference at VFW Post 4456 in Gilbert on February 7 & 8th. Now is the time to keep staying involved in volunteering with what ever you can. I know there is always something you can do to help or just come down to provide morale support. Thanks for all you do to support our Veterans and Auxiliary.

January 10, 2015
Hope everyone received everything they wanted for Christmas and brought in the new year with joy, good times and enthusiasm for a better year to come. So far the frigid new year has brought joy for the blanket factory but (supposedly) warmer days are ahead. After all, we do live in Minnesota so we should expect the cold, however, the arctic weather can stay in the arctic. At least the Bantam AA Hockey team (our sponsored team) is taking advantage of the cold and continuing to win hockey games. They are now at a very impressive 21 wins 6 losses. With only 8 games left on the schedule, let's cheer them on to win them all. Their next scheduled game is against Hermantown at the Northwood's Arena in Cloquet on January 19 at 8:15. Go Lumberjacks!!!
The Ladies Auxiliary is putting together a "Wheelbarrow of Cheer" raffle as a fundraiser for Veterans Programs. The drawing will be on Tuesday, March 17th so please help out the Ladies Auxiliary by buying some raffle tickets, you'll be glad you did.
As another fundraiser, the Ladies Auxiliary has also asked a Psychic/Medium Brenda Lynn Hammon to come to the VFW on February 28th to conduct a group reading. There are also some private readings but they are filling up fast. She will hold your hands, put light and protection around you and call forth messages of the highest good.
As a reminder for those who wish to attend, there is a Department Mid-Winter conference coming up January 23-24 at the Marriott City Center Hotel in Minneapolis and an 8th District meeting at the Gilbert VFW Post 4456 on February 7-8. See you there!
