COMMANDERS NOTES
Comrades and Sisters,
The end of the membership year is quickly coming up and some of our members still have not paid their dues. Don't wait until the last minute and let your membership lapse, make your payment today. You are not only affecting yourself by not paying your dues on time, you are also affecting all Veterans as well. Veterans, like you, who made the sacrifices necessary to defend this country and keep America free. Those sacrifices were not made without consequence. Some of the personal, physical and emotional issues that Veterans face, and are still enduring, need to be addressed and taken care of. And we need to look out for our new Veterans of today as well, so they don't have to endure the same hardships we went through to get the few benefits we have now. I thank you for your service and sacrifices, however, there are some who are not so grateful and continue to try to take those benefits away, benefits you so justly deserve. By paying your dues on time keeps your voice active on Capitol Hill and helps in keeping the few benefits we have and getting those that we are still fighting for. If you show that you don't care about your membership, they will have the same attitude and they won't care if you have benefits. If you belong to another Veterans organization, that's great, your voice can be heard more than once. It only takes a minute to write a check and put it in the mail, don't let that minute be the deciding factor for losing those benefits you fought so hard to get. Don't let everthing we've fought for be all for naught, make that payment today. You'll be glad you did.
In appreciation for all you have done, even if you think is ever so slight, we are having a Post and Auxiliary Appreciation Banquet on March 13th to show our appreciation and thank you for your service and dedication. But you must let us know you are coming so we have the right quantity of food to serve you. Call the Post at 879-2447 no later than the l1th to put your name on the list and let us know what your meal choice is. The choices are Chicken Kiev or Ham, with all the trimmings of course. Your spouse or significant other, whether a member or not, is welcome as well. Social Hour will begin at 5:00 pm with the meal commencing at 6:00 pm. We hope to see you there.
By the time you get this newsletter it's won't be too late to sign up for the Firearms Safety class sponsored by our Post. Sign up starts at 6:00 sharp on Tuesday March 2nd and is an 8 week course (every Tuesday night for 8 weeks). If you ever want to hunt in the State of Minnesota, you need this course certificate to get a license. The minimum age to take this course is 11 years old (not a day earlier). So now is your time to take advantage of a great opportunity to get this certification.
Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication in support of our Veterans. You're the reason why I feel our Post is the best in the 8th District. Keep up the good work!!
Respectfully,
Richard Chasse, Sr.
Commander VFW Post 3979
